If by 'better weather' you mean stinking hot, then yes! But you'll be fine either way. The only thing to really avoid is trying to cross the Rockies any time before late June - too cold!
Just found your posts! Ah right thanks, till I get the maps and try and plan where I will be in what day/dates, I'm not sure if I will be. Fingers crossed I am! Not a big fan of the cold, pack more socks maybe
